Charlie Ragus, the incomparable founder of AdvoCare once said, "We're going to walk the beaches of the world together." It's an image that has stuck in my head since the first time I heard it.
I don't know what feeling or sensation invades your being when you think of walking the beaches of the world, but for me, it's ultimate freedom. Even if you aren't a "beach person," you have to admit there is something about the breeze, the salty air, the sand, and the seemingly endless expanse of water that does something to your heart as you stand there observing one of God's most amazing creations. In me, it generates an ever-pervasive feeling of peace and hope and ultimately, FREEDOM.
So, now, when I think about the words, we're going to walk the beaches of the world together, I realize that Charlie's vision was about something way bigger than vitamins, protein shakes, losing weight, increased energy, or even getting wealthy. I realize that Charlie Ragus created AdvoCare to ultimately give people freedom...true life freedom.
Interestingly, every single person's idea of freedom is different. The freedom I seek in my life is different than what you seek, and what you're looking for is different than what your mother or sister or best friend wants. Freedom is completely one's own thing, but despite its individualized nature, freedom was, in fact, exactly what Charlie Ragus wanted to offer the world around him, regardless of the form it took. He wanted to enable you to live life on your terms.
You may remember the first moment you heard about AdvoCare. That moment offered you some form of freedom, and that's what you latched onto, whether you realized it or not. You might have thought you wanted to lose weight, but the reality was that you wanted to be free from being overweight. Or, perhaps you thought you wanted more energy, but really, what you wanted was to be free from laziness and lethargy. Or, maybe you evisioned being rich or having all your debt paid off, but even with this, what you really wanted was to be free from the watchful eye of a tyrannical boss, the binding nature of corporate America, the capped ceiling of an annual salary, or the slavery of bill collectors. The list of possible things you were seeking is really endless, but the truth is that ultimately, you wanted freedom from something and may not have even known it.
When Charlie's "walk the beaches of the world" message truly hit my heart and finally made sense in my mind, it shifted my approach to invitations, 1-on-1 meetings, 3-way calls, and even mixers. It changed how I looked at taking the products and eating well and exercising. No longer was I trying to lose weight or have more energy. No longer was I trying to sell products or get people to want to lose weight or get rich.
No, instead, I was seeking freedom for myself, and in turn, began offering it to people, whatever that meant to whoever was sitting in front of me.
If someone had $50,000 in debt, I was offering them an opportunity for debt freedom. If someone was working three jobs just to make ends meet, I was offering them an opportunity to have more time at home with their children or spouse, free from the restrictions of just trying to make ends meet. If someone was 25 pounds overweight, I was offering the chance to finally be free from the physical burden of feeling bad about themselves or lacking energy or low self-confidence, or whatever it was that their physical body was creating in them.
It became FREEDOM that I was offering, sharing, and ultimately selling, and my friends, I strongly encourage you to think about what freedom(s) you want in life and what freedom(s) you want to give those you know and love. Start sharing that vision!
