I had a story told to me decades ago by my basketball coach that has been the pilot of my endeavors ever since. We had just finished practice one evening, and he circled us up to share with us the story of the event that left the most profound impression on him as a coach.
He said, "The best thing that I have ever seen as a basketball coach was in a close game years ago. It was nip and tuck all the way to the wire. As the buzzer sounded, the arena erupted, and we had won. While everyone in the gymnasium stormed the court and celebrated, I witnessed something of significance. Across the arena, amidst all the celebrating, was my guard, sitting on the floor alone. He was sitting with his arms across his knees in total exhaustion. He had given every ounce of energy in the effort for the outcome, and it occurred to me that even the elation of winning did not provide enough energy to join the celebration. The best moment of my career was witnessing someone expend everything in an effort."
His message to us that night was, "Give it your all. You are only going to get tired, and getting tired is nothing to fear."
That story is with me still, decades later. I reference it frequently as I push forward in many areas of life. It fits appropriately in all aspects of life, and it does with AdvoCare as well. For most people, especially at the beginning, AdvoCare gets worked as an evening business. We work it after our full-time jobs, and as it grows, it requires some traveling. That translates into some after midnight bedtimes from time to time, knowing that the alarm will ring early.
So, with my long-lost coach in mind, here is my message to you tonight, "Don't be afraid to get yourself tired".
With those few extra hours, you are creating a legacy that will echo within your family for generations to come.
REALLY needed this tonight! Thanks, Eric. :)
